Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information is collected when you use PetCostly, why it is collected, and what choices you have. We have written it to be read rather than skimmed.

1. Summary

  • The numbers you enter into our calculators are processed in your browser and are not sent to us or stored by us.
  • If you use the contact form, we receive the name, email address, topic and message you submit, and store them so the enquiry can be handled.
  • The site uses analytics and advertising, which may set cookies and collect device and usage information.
  • We do not sell personal information.

2. Who we are

PetCostly (“we”, “us”) operates this website. For any question about this policy or about personal data, use the contact formand choose “Privacy or data question”.

3. Information you give us

Contact form. When you submit the contact form we collect your name, email address, the topic you select and the content of your message. This is used only to understand and respond to your enquiry, and to keep a record of it.

Calculator inputs. Costs, weights and other figures you type into a calculator are processed locally in your browser. They are not transmitted to our servers and we cannot see them.

4. Information collected automatically

Like most websites, we collect limited technical information when you visit: your browser type and version, device type, approximate location derived from your IP address, the pages you view, the referring page and the time of your visit. This is used to operate, secure and improve the site, and to understand which calculators are useful.

5. Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device. We and third parties may use cookies for:

  • Strictly necessary operation — keeping the site working and secure.
  • Analytics — understanding how the site is used so we can improve it.
  • Advertising — selecting, delivering and measuring advertisements, including limiting how often you see the same one.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how parts of the site behave. Where a consent mechanism is presented to you, your choices are respected for the cookies it covers.

6. Analytics

We use analytics services, including Google Analytics 4, to understand aggregate usage of the site. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to collect information such as page views, device category and approximate region. IP anonymisation is enabled where supported. This information is used in aggregate to see which pages help people and where the site falls short.

You can opt out of Google Analytics across websites by installing Google's browser add-on, or by using your browser's own privacy controls.

7. Advertising and Google AdSense

This site displays advertising, including through third-party advertising networks such as Google AdSense. Google and other advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies, including to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites, to measure performance, and to limit how often an ad is shown.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet. You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, and you may opt out of some third-party vendors' cookies through the industry opt-out pages provided by those networks.

Third-party advertising networks may collect information such as your device type, browser, IP address and interaction with advertisements. Their use of that information is governed by their own privacy policies, not by this one. We do not control third-party cookies and recommend reviewing the policies of the networks serving ads on this site.

8. How information is processed and shared

Information is processed to operate the website, respond to enquiries, understand usage, prevent abuse and display advertising. We use service providers for hosting, analytics, database storage and, where applicable, email delivery. They process information on our instructions and only to the extent needed to provide those services.

We may disclose information where required by law, where necessary to protect the site or its users, or as part of a business reorganisation. We do not sell personal information.

9. Data retention

Contact messages are kept for as long as needed to deal with the enquiry and for a reasonable record afterwards, then deleted. Analytics data is retained in aggregate for a limited period. Server logs are retained for a short period for security purposes.

10. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data we hold about you, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to complain to your local data protection authority. To make a request, use the contact form and select “Privacy or data question”. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

This policy describes our current practices. It does not claim compliance with any specific legal regime; if you believe a right applies to you that is not reflected here, tell us and we will look at it.

11. Children

This site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the site, our services or legal requirements change. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last revised. Material changes will be shown clearly on this page.

13. Contact

Questions about this policy can be sent through the contact page. See also our terms of use and disclaimer.
